Douglas R. Rosenzweig is a Partner with French & Casey, LLP. Mr. Rosenzweig has been with French & Casey for over ten (10) years, coming to the firm after spending three (3) years as a litigation associate at a Manhattan based insurance defense firm. Mr. Rosenzweig is responsible for litigating cases in the following areas: construction accidents, property damage, premises liability, transportation/railroad law and product liability defense. Mr. Rosenzweig personally handles each of these matters from inception to trial, managing a highly skilled team of associates, paralegals and hired consultants/experts in order to defend the rights of the firm’s valued clients.
Mr. Rosenzweig has been named a Rising Star by Superlawyers magazine every year since 2013 and has been awarded Martindale Hubble's AV Preeminent Rating, the highest possible rating in both Legal Ability & Ethical Standards. The AV Rating is awarded to less than 5% of attorneys nationwide.
Mr. Rosenzweig specializes in the defense of owners, contractors and scaffolding companies in both Premises Liability and Labor Law cases. He has obtained defense verdicts for his clients in high profile, multi-million dollars trials. He has successfully prosecuted and defended appeals in the Appellate Division, First and Second Departments and has handled construction mediations, arbitrations and multi-party settlement negotiations.
Mr. Rosenzweig also represents a Class 1 Freight Railroad in connection with personal injury and property damage claims. Through this association, Mr. Rosenzweig became involved with the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel (“NARTC”) and now sits on its executive board. In addition to helping to plan NARTC’s annual meetings, Mr. Rosenzweig has given several presentations with topics including “Litigation Financing” and “The Reptile Theory of litigation at both depositions and trial”.
In the wake of Superstorm Sandy, Mr. Rosenzweig (a Long Island native) spoke at several homeowners’ association meetings and was pleased to be able to help several residents of Nassau, Suffolk and Kings County fight for recovery against FEMA and private insurance carriers. Mr. Rosenzweig has also represented property owners in First Party disputes with their insurance carriers in similar catastrophic loss situations.
Although Mr. Rosenzweig focuses on litigation, he is able to leverage his extensive knowledge of construction projects into an ability to quickly draft, review and edit contracts for his clients so as to minimize the risk of future litigation. This has been a growing part of his practice and one which he thoroughly enjoys. He also assists clients with debt collection and lien prosecution.
Mr. Rosenzweig is a graduate of the University of Florida having received his Bachelor’s Degree from UF in 2000. In 2003, Mr. Rosenzweig earned a Juris Doctor, with honors, from the University of North Carolina School of Law where he was an award winning member of the Holderness Moot Court. Additionally, Mr. Rosenzweig served as an Honor Court Justice and as the Law School Attorney General. Upon graduation, he was awarded membership in the James and Carolyn B. Davis Society which recognizes members of the graduating class who have demonstrated integrity, leadership, dedication and service on behalf of the School of Law.
In December, 2016, Mr. Rosenzweig was invited to join the prestigious Claims and Litigation Management Alliance. The CLM is a nonpartisan alliance comprised of thousands of insurance companies, corporations, Corporate Counsel, Litigation and Risk Managers, claims professionals and attorneys to promote and further the highest standards of litigation management in pursuit of client defense. Selected attorneys are extended membership by invitation only based on nominations from CLM Fellows.
Mr. Rosenzweig currently resides in Brooklyn, New York with his wonderful wife and two (2) sons, Charlie and Oliver. He enjoys supporting the Gators, European travel, reading historical fiction and spending time in the Berkshires with his family.
