New York Gov. David Paterson signed tax amnesty legislation (Ch. 501 (A.B. 21), Laws 2009, Fourth Special Session) on December 4, 2009, that authorizes the PAID (Penalty and Interest Discount) program. The measure allows the Department of Taxation and Finance to administer an accounts receivable discount program, for certain outstanding tax, fee, or surcharge liabilities, that are or were imposed under the Tax Law and administered by the department.

French & Casey, LLP is thrilled to welcome Jenna E. Elkind as our newest litigation associate.  Ms. Elkind has extensive experience in the areas of Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy proceedings, personal injury, commercial, and real estate litigation as well as general contractual disputes.  Ms. Elkind received her undergraduate degree in Economics, cum laude from Barnard College and received her J.D. at Boston University School of Law.  While at Barnard, Ms. Elkind participated in the New York Fed Challenge Competition hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York where her 5 member team won first place and a $50,000 prize from Moody's Foundation.  We have no doubt that she will make a superb addition to the firm.  Ms. Elkind can be reached via e-mail at Jelkind@frenchcasey.com

 On June 9, 2009, French & Casey, LLP attended the Annual New York Women's Bar Association Awards and Installation Dinner.  The event honored the Chief Judge of the State of New York, Hon. Jonathan Lippman, as well as the new president of the NYWBA, Donna M. Praiss. French & Casey, LLP also participated in an auction to benefit the Hon. Betty Weinberg Ellerin Fellowship, which was held prior to the awards dinner.

On May 18, 2009, French & Casey, LLP will welcome Tara Bhupathi as our 2009 summer associate. Ms. Bhupathi recently completed her first year at the University of North Carolina School of Law. After Ms. Bhupathi graduated from Georgetown University in 2006, she worked as a litigation paralegal for two years at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Warton & Garrison. Ms. Bhupathi's academic excellence and prior work experience will further enhance our ability to provide the most prompt and cost-effective service to our clients.
